Modern Country Living - Domestic Bliss
Game On:
I bought a brilliant tea towel last year by Emma
Bridgewater which said “Christmas, season of Goodwill, Merrymaking,
Falling out & washing up”. I think that just about sums up
90% of the households up and down the country. Well what do you
expect when people who usually live miles apart in their own houses
with their own dogs and routines are all thrust together under
one roof for 3 or 4 days?
Last year we had my mother in law’s dog (very badly
behaved lap dog), my parents dog (very ancient and windy but basically
good), our dogs, (Jack Russell need I say more and a Staffordshire
Bull Terrier puppy cute but still a puppy), my sister in law’s
dogs (Lurcher who steals food and Heinz 57 sweet but hairy) and
our friends 3 dogs (2 beautiful sleek whippets always out hunting
with my dog and a German Long haired Pointer, huge and hairy and
spoiled). You can imagine the mayhem –Between my dog fighting
with mother in law’s dog, Lurcher munching happily on mince pies,
whippets lost for hours and all the “Old and Bold” feeding rich
tit bits to all the dogs under the table plus a few children,
boyfriends and new wives the tea towel was spot on! I wish you
all a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year!!!
Recipe
Fried Christmas Pudding with Ice Cream
There are no quantities for this pud.
Left over Christmas Pudding or buy a Duchy Originals
just to make this!
Butter – clarified is best if you have it
1 tub of Vanilla ice cream I really like Green and Black’s organic
Vanilla ice cream
Slice the Christmas pudding into thickish slices. Heat up some
of the butter in a non stick frying pan. When the butter is frothing,
slip in the slices of Christmas pud. Fry for a minute or so on
each side. Drain the slices on a piece of kitchen towel then put
one slice on each plate and serve with the Vanilla ice cream.
Delicious!
Tip: STOP PRESS a Shooting Gazette Exclusive!
The champagne to toast Christmas or see in the New
Year is Taittinger’s new Champagne “Nocturne”. In fact it is so
exclusive that the price has yet to be divulged it is rumoured
to be somewhere between a non vintage and a vintage. “It is simply
delicious” said Patrick McGrath Managing Director and MW of Hatch
Mansfield Agency, “It is mid way between a Brut and a Demi Sec
– it will take you from Drinks through to Pudding, truly remarkable
champagne”. www.hatchmansfield.com
